There is nothing that compares to the elegance and beauty of a rolled fondant wedding cake.  Rolled fondant wedding cakes have been increasingly popular in the United states for the last 10-15 years.  They originate in Europe and South Africa but ever since they were introduced here American brides have been fascinated by them.
Rolled fondant is a thick, sugary icing that is rolled out like pie crust and then draped over the cake.   That is why it is so smooth and normally has the rounded top edge.  It has a somewhat marshmallowy kind of taste and texture.  It is also more pricey than it's buttercream cousin, though for those brides who won't be happy with anything else we can certainly accomodate them.
Below the first set of pictures are some cakes we have done to "look"
like fondant cakes, they are all done with buttercream, some have fondant accents but the base icing is buttercream and not fondant.  This is usually the perfect solutions for those who like the look of fondant but not the taste, and sometimes the cost.  These cakes are less expensive, depending on the decorating and most often are just as beautiful.
