What exactly is a Groom's Cake? In Victorian times it was a custom to break little cakes over the head of the Bride and Groom. French pastry chef's came up with the Groom's cake for "breaking", leaving the brides cake for eating. Today's weddings are much more sophisticated and breaking cakes has been transformed into modern day "cake cutting". Groom's cakes vary somewhat in different parts of the country but in the south where we are located they are very popular at weddings. Traditionally they were all chocolate but today that has seemed to go the same way as the "all white wedding cake". Today's Groom's cakes are less involved with tradition and are more tailored towards the bride and grooms interest, hobbies, pets, vocation, favorite sports or sometimes the Groom's cake will be a reverse of the wedding cake (as in an all chocolate version of the wedding cake). Often they are used to supplement the servings in the wedding cake and sometimes they are served at the rehearsal dinner. We also do them in a variety of cake flavors and icings. On this page you will find a few examples of the many, many possibilities for Groom's cakes. If you don't find what you are looking for we either have already done it and have a picture in one of our albums or we can often create it for you.
